Needle cleaner history:
The history of vibration needle cleaners goes back to the 1970s. There were devices from various companies that were transmitted at high frequencies through a liquid to remove dirt from the needle. After the appearance of the CD and declining turntable sales in the 80s and especially the 90s, these devices disappeared from the market. To the chagrin of many record listeners, this was not reissued because of the high cost. With the Flux-Sonic, Flux-Hifi has taken up this idea and redeveloped the technology. The result is fantastic!
The cleaning
The stylus is the primary component in the playback process. The movement that will later induce voltage occurs here. The aim is to follow the groove exactly in the micrometer range. In order for this to succeed perfectly, the manufacturers of pickups go to great lengths. However, if the needle is dirty, the diamond - no matter how polished and ground it is - cannot follow the deflection exactly. He reacts too early or too late, distortions arise. Even supposedly clean records are covered with dust, partly visible, partly invisible in the groove. It contains particles of silicates, polymers and organic substances. These stick to the needle due to the high temperature during the scanning process. How quickly this happens is shown in Fig. 1 clarifies. Already after playing one side of the record, almost nothing can be seen of the needle from the dirt. Fig. 2 shows the needle after cleaning with a normal, dry needle brush. Fibers are removed, but the crust remains. Only an aggressive liquid cleaner ensures a reasonably clean surface of the diamond, see Fig. 3. However, since these cleaners can attack not only the diamond's glue, but also the sensitive rubber parts of the needle carrier's suspension, caution is advised here. Fig. 4 shows the needle after using the Flux-Sonic. Without attacking any part of the cartridge, the result is excellent. The needle shines in new splendor. (Fig. 1-4)
The technology
The principle of action is similar to that of an ultrasonic cleaner from dental technology or an ultrasonic bath for eyeglass lenses. A strong high-frequency vibration ensures that the surfaces are cleaned. Some materials, such as aluminum, can be damaged by treatment with ultrasound. Even if the diamond were perfectly cleaned, the adhesive points and the suspension of the needle carrier would be damaged, as would the use of aggressive liquid cleaners.
The Flux-Sonic vibration cleaner, on the other hand, works with a low frequency. The circuit and mechanics are designed in such a way that a three-dimensional vibration acts on the needle, which ensures that any dirt particles are removed. The frequency is precisely adjusted so that damage to the adhesive or the suspension is excluded - the cleaning result is, however, maximum. The deflections are far from the values ​​of the actual scanning. The movement of the needle corresponds to only a fraction of the load of the playback process.
A liquid is required to transmit the vibration from the device to the needle. This has an additional, gentle cleaning effect and is made on the basis of isopropanol. After use, it evaporates without leaving any residue. Flux-Fluid is applied to a specially developed pad made from the finest PE fibers. Due to their number and the resulting density, these fibers already create a capillary effect that is very similar to the effect of a liquid. In connection with Flux-Fluid there is a perfect combination, which transmits the vibration and at the same time absorbs the dirt. It is recommended to use it before every playback process.
The result
The cleaning process only takes 15 seconds, then the optimum has already been achieved. The pickup capability of the pickup system is improved. Less abrasion also increases the life of the needle. Scanning noises are significantly minimized. In terms of sound, the difference is overwhelming. Both distortion and annoying background noises have largely disappeared. Playback has become significantly more dynamic and pleasant. There are no longer any unpleasant peaks and even the highest levels are reproduced without distortion. The frequency range seems to be expanded, especially in the bass and treble range. Just like cleaning the needle, cleaning the record is of course very important. Make sure your records are as clean as possible. A device from Flux-Hifi is already in development.

Stylus Cleaner History:

After the appearance of the CD, and declining turntable sales in the '80s and especially the' 90s, these devices disappeared from the market. To the chagrin of many vinyl listeners, these devices were NOT produced again because of the high cost involved. Flux-Hifi took up this idea with the Flux-Sonic and redeveloped the technology. The result is fantastic!
Cleaning
The stylus is the primary component in the playback process. The motion, which will later induce voltage, is created here. The aim is to accurately track the groove in the micrometer range. The manufacturers of pickups undertake substantial efforts to achieve this goal perfectly. However, if the needle is dirty, the diamond - no matter how ground and polished it is - cannot exactly follow the deflection. It reacts too early or too late, and this leads to distortions. Even supposedly clean records are covered with dust, partly visible, partly invisible in the groove. This includes particles of silicates, polymers and organic materials. These adhere to the needle during the scanning process, due to the high temperature. How quickly this happens is illustrated in Figure 1. Already after playing one record side, the needle is hardly visible due to the dirt. Figure 2 shows the needle after cleaning with a regular, dry needle brush. Fibers are removed, the crust, however, remains. It takes an aggressive liquid cleaner to get a reasonably cleaned surface of the diamond, see Figure. 3 However, one has to proceed with caution because these cleaners attack NOT only the adhesive of the diamond, but may also attack the sensitive rubber parts of the suspension of the needle carrier. Figure 4 shows the needle after application of Flux-Sonic. The result is outstanding, and no parts of the pickup are being harmed. The needle shines in new splendor. (Figure 1-4)
Technique
The operating principle is similar to an ultrasonic cleaner used in dental technology or an ultrasonic bath for eyeglasses. The surface is cleaned using strong high-frequency vibration. The treatment with ultrasound causes damage in some materials, such as aluminum. Even if the diamond would be perfectly cleaned, the adhesive joints and the suspension of the needle carrier would be harmed, same as with the application of aggressive cleaning liquids.
The Flux-Sonic vibration cleaner, however, operates at a low frequency. The circuitry and mechanics are designed so that a three-dimensional vibration acts on the needle, ensuring that all dirt particles are removed. The frequency is exactly tuned so that damage to the bonding or the suspension is ruled out - the cleaning result, however, is perfect. The deflections are far from the values ​​of the actual scanning. The motion of the needle corresponds only to a fraction of the load during the playback process. A fluid is needed to transmit vibrations from the device to the needle. This fluid, prepared on the basis of isopropanol, ensures an additional, gentle cleaning effect. After its application, it evaporates without leaving a residue. Flux-Fluid is applied on a specially designed pad made of the finest PE fibers. Due to their number and the resulting density, these fibers already produce a capillary effect, which is very similar to the effect of a liquid. In conjunction with Flux-Fluid, we get a perfect combination that transmits the vibration and, at the same time, absorbs the dirt. We recommend using it every time before playing a record.
Result
The cleaning process takes just 15 seconds to reach the optimum. The scanning capability of the pickup system is improved. The service life of the needle increases due to less abrasion. Scanning noise is significantly reduced. In terms of sound quality, the difference is outstanding. Both distortions and disturbing interference have largely disappeared. The playback has become much more dynamic and enjoyable. Unpleasant peaks are no longer present and even large modulations are reproduced without distortion. The frequency range appears expanded, especially in the bass and treble range. Of course, the cleaning of the record is just as important as the cleaning of the needle. Please keep your records as clean as possible. A device by Flux-Hifi is already in development.
